Derwent - Articles Cited by Examiner

The Article and Patent citation data is now available on the full record page, accessible through the citation network links as well as scrolling down to the end of the page.

The new citation data is organised under three main tabs, namely Citing Patents, Patents Cited by and Articles Cited by.

On click, the tabs render a list of patents or articles which may be further organized by the Examiner and Inventor radio buttons if data is available for both sets.

The new Web of Science resolves >50% more citations from patents to articles so there are more links available from patents on Derwent Innovation Index to the Web of Science Core Collection

Articles Cited by Examiner/Inventor

The article list contains source information related to the cited articles, including author name, title of article, publication name and bibliographic information. If the record is in Web of Science, then a link will take you to the Full Record. (subscription required).

Cited by Patent

This label displays the patent number of the patent that is citing the article.

See References of (other patent)

When viewing Articles Cited by Examiner, occasionally specific cited references are not listed for a patent. Instead, the following text appears: "See references of (other patent)."

This is an artifact of the source data received by Derwent from the patent offices and can occur when an Examiner chooses to indicate that the same references (patent and non-patent) apply to two or more patents, rather than listing the specific references for each patent. Current processing systems do not enable auto-posting of the cited references in question to the record. As a result, to see the specific references it is necessary to view the record for the patent number given in the text "See references of (other patent)." Note that this is the same record if both patents belong to one family.
