Web of Science Core Collection Advanced Search Field Tags

Searches the Abstract field within a record.

Searches for institution and/or place names in the Address field within a record, usually for the first named author of an article.

In many Web of Science Core Collection records, there is an association between the author's name and the author's address. This is shown by a superscript number link that appears after the author's name on the Full Record page. When you click the number link, the system takes you to the Addresses field where you can see the author's address.

Searches the Author keywords field within a record.

Searches all terms listed after the equal sign (=). For example ALL=liver disease india singh, finds records with all of these terms anywhere in the full record

Note: Funding Details (FD) are not included in an All Fields search

Searches for Web of Science ResearcherID numbers and ORCID identifiers in the Author Identifiers table within a record.

Enter a unique Web of Science ResearcherID number or ORCID identifier with the AI field tag.

Searches for author names in the Author(s) field within a record.

Last names containing a space should be searched with and without the space to ensure that all relevant records are returned. For example:

• AU=(Van Hecke T* OR Vanhecke T*)

Searches for conference titles, locations, dates, and sponsors in the Conference Information field within a record.

Searches for cities in the Addresses field within a record.

Note: In Current Contents Connect, the product searches the Reprint Address field within a record.

Searches for countries/regions in the Addresses field within a record.

Searches for the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) in the Source field within a record.

Searches the data of publication within a record. Can be used to search for a unique publication date, including month and day, or a range of items between two publication dates (inclusive).

Example:

Search DOP= 2020-01-01 to find article with the publication date January 1st of 2020.

This search will also find records published in January of 2020 that have no 'day' of publication, and records published in 2020 that have no "month" or "day" of publication.

Search DOP=2020-01-01/2020-03-01 to find articles published between January 1st of 2020 and March 1st of 2020 (inclusive). 

This search will also find records published in that range that have no "day" of publication, but do include the searched year and month.

Searches all funding details included with Web of Science Core Collection record

Funding Details includes descriptive grant data that has been acquired from external grant repositories and added to Web of Science Core Collection records.

When available, a search on Funding Details will include

• Grant Title

• Grant Description

• Grant Key Words

• Grantee Institution

• Grant Type

• Grant Status

• Program Name

• Principle Investigator

• Co Principle Investigator

Searches the Grant Number field within the Funding Acknowledgment table within a record.

Searches the Funding Agency field within the Funding Acknowledgment table within a record.

Searches the Funding field within a record. Click the Show Funding Text link to see the funding text. For example:

The program has benefited greatly from the financial support of the National Science Foundation, the World Bank, the Harvard Center for International Development, and the U.S Institute of Peace as well as from the support of the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs

Searches the final publication year within a record.

For example, if an item has a Early Access Publication Year 2018 and a Final Publication Year of 2019, searching FPY=2019 will return this item.

Searching either PY=2018 or PY=2019 will also return this item.

Searches for corporation and institution names in the Group Author(s) field within a record. For example:

Group Author(s): World Values Study Group; Social Insurance Institution of Finland; Research Institute of the Evangelic-Lutheran Church of Finland; TNS Gallup Finland; Finnish Social Science Data Archive

Searches the ISSN field within a record.

The ISSN (International Standard Serial Number) searches for periodical publications such as journals and electronic publications. If a journal has both a print ISSN and an electronic ISSN, then both display in the Full Record. The format is four numbers, a hyphen (-), three numbers, and then a check character that may be a number or X.

Searches the ISBN field within a record.

The ISBN (International Standard Book Number) searches for books. It is a unique machine-readable identifier that marks a book unmistakably. The format is a 10-digit number that contains 3 hyphens (-). The last digit is a check character, which may be a number or an X. The position of the hyphens can vary for each ISBN identifier.

Searches the Keywords Plus^® field within a record.

Search for preferred organization names and/or their name variants from the Preferred Organization Index.

A search on a preferred organization name returns all records that contain the preferred name and all records that contain its name variants. A search on a name variant returns all records that contain the variant. For example, Cornell Law Sch returns all records that contain Cornell Law Sch in the Addresses field.

Booleans in Organization Names

When searching for organization names that contain a Boolean (AND, NOT, NEAR, and SAME), always enclose the word in quotation marks ( " " ). For example:

• OG=(Japan Science "and" Technology Agency (JST))
• OG=("Near" East Univ)
• OG=("OR" Hlth Sci Univ)

A search on a preferred organization name returns all records that contain the preferred name. For example, a search on OO=Cornell Univ returns all records that contain this preferred organization name.

A search on a name variant returns all records that contain the variant. For example, a search on OO=Cornell Law Sch returns all records that contain this variant.

A search on an organization that is not indexed as a preferred name or as a name variant returns all records that contain the organization name that you entered as a search query.

Searches the PubMed ID field within a record.

Searches for provinces and states in the Addresses field within a record.

Note: In Current Contents Connect, the product searches the Reprint Address field within a record.

Searches the Source Published field within a record. You must combine this field tag with another field tag using the AND or NOT Boolean operator.

Example: TS=cell growth AND PY=2007

When entering a range of years, restrict your search to five years or less; otherwise, processing slows down and the product returns too many unproductive results.

Example: TS=cell growth AND PY=(2008-2010)

Note: A search of Year Published (PY) will include both Published Early Access Year and Final Publication Year.

• For example, searching PY = 2022, will return items with Final Publication Year of 2022 and any items with Published Early Access Year of 2022,

• This will also impact the years displayed for Refine an Analyze Results. In the case where an item's Published Early Access Year is different from the Final Publication Year, the Published Early Access year will be used for both Refine and Analyze. Thus, a search of PY=2021 may show a Refine Results for Publication Year with items listed for 2019, 2020 and 2021.

Searches for author addresses or affiliations in the Addresses field within a record.

Searches for suborganizations in the Addresses field within a record.

Searches for publication names in the Source field within a record. The product retrieves all source titles within a product database (for example, journal titles and/or book titles if the product includes books).

Searches the Accession Number field within a record. The accession number is a unique identifying number associated with each record in the product. It consists of a product identification code, a product year, and an item number.
